January Newsletter
Our New CDs
Greetings from your NEW Chapter Directors and (until Feb) Couple Of the Year!
Brand new year – Brand new Chapter Directors! We want to thank Arnie and Joyce for this opportunity. We are hoping that we can fill the LARGE shoes we have inherited from them. Our only request is that you be patient with us as we learn our new role. We are confident that we will forget or neglect to do things (unintentionally) that have been taken for granted by all of us. We are open to suggestions and reminder nudges!
We will introduce our Chapter Team at the January meeting, after we are inducted. We have been trying to keep this a secret until then. We’re not sure we have been completely successful with this. There may have been some leaks.
We have been honored to be your COY for 2009. Chapter D2 was represented as we went to several Chapters to visit and were able to attend all of the District Rallies (Indiana, Michigan and Ohio) and the Region D Rally this past year. Several of you went with us to some of them. We had so much fun at these rallies meeting other people and participating in their various events that we can hardly wait for 2010! We would love to have more of you go with us! The more the merrier!
Since you will be getting this before New Year’s Eve we want to remind you that there will be a New Year’s Eve party at the Reynold’s. Hope to see you all there!!!
Have a very Merry Christmas!
Be Safe! Catch ya later!

From the ACDs
Well hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a good start to the New Year.
This will be our last write up as ACD’s for the Chapter as we have new Directors and they will be choosing new staff. We have enjoyed being the ACD for the Danner’s and wish good things for the upcoming Chapter Directors and ACDs. Please support them as you have us and participate in as many things as you can in the chapter. We have had many great times with you all and will continue to participate as members in this great chapter. From visiting other chapters we think this one is the best. We have made many friends here and some in other chapters and will continue to visit others to make more great friends, isn’t this what’s all about, having good times and fun rides?
So we are looking forward to another good year with friends, rides and a few parties thrown in for some off bike fun too. Maybe some more campouts too,we sure are enjoying that and maybe some more over night rides visiting some special places of interest to all. Who knows we may just have too much fun!!!
So , step up to the plate and get involved , it’s a good experience and you learn a lot of new things and get to see how the chapter life works up close.
Till we meet again for a ride …
Thanks you all for being there…

SAY HI TO OUR DISTRICT CHAPTER EDUCATORS OF THE YEAR
Friends,
The following is borrowed from Bruce & Melissa Thayer Former MI Asst. District Rider Educators.
So what have you been thinking about this winter? Have you been thinking about the gray skies, the rain, sleet or snow of the season? Are you prepared for freezing temperatures? These are not very cheerful thoughts for those of us who are not winter sports enthusiasts. Some riders brighten their outlook at this time of year by planning for the coming riding season. A few of us are deciding which motorcycling events to attend this spring and summer. Maybe this year you are planning to attend Wing Ding? Whatever your destination, planning the route to take is an important part of trip planning. However, don’t overlook the need to plan the gear you will need to take with you on each of your trips. Having the proper gear for the ride is an essential element of a successful trip.
So why not start with your most important safety gear? Inspect your helmet for wear and tear. Does the outer shell have chips or cracks? Has it sustained an impact while you were wearing it? Has it been repeatedly dropped from your motorcycle seat? Realize that helmets are only designed to survive one impact while being worn. Also look at the chin strap. Is it frayed from many years of wear? These signs of damage indicate that it may be time to replace your helmet. Experts advise changing your helmet every 3 to 5 years for maximum protection. Time, wear and ultraviolet rays will cause your helmet’s materials to degrade resulting in reduced protection. (www.snellfoundation.org.)
Have you thought to check the weather for the area you plan to visit? Be sure you know what the average high and low temperatures are for the month of your visit. If you expect to encounter hot weather, this may be the time for you to start shopping for a mesh jacket if you don’t already own one. These jackets give you the best abrasion protection (if needed) along with maximum ventilation. Good ventilation reduces your discomfort in hot weather and can help prevent heat exhaustion. Even though they have long sleeves, when you wear a mesh jacket the air flows around you almost as if you are wearing nothing. And the synthetic materials provide excellent abrasion resistance. With elbow, shoulder and back pads included, you get great protection for your ‘corners’ and your back in case you go down.
Wise riders always wear long pants while riding. Most riders wear denim jeans because they are comfortable when you are not on the bike. They do provide some resistance to abrasion, but not as much protection as leather or the synthetic gear. Riding pants are also made from breathable mesh materials with extra protection at the knees, hips, and legs in case of a spill at speed. The mesh material can also help keep you from getting uncomfortably hot. Gloves are also manufactured with the same mesh materials to protect your hands. They provide you with a good grip on the controls while keeping your hands fully covered for maximum protection. They are durable and worth checking out for your comfort and protection.
Can you rely on your current rain gear? Does your rain gear have leaky seams or rips? Do you need to put a new jacket or rain pants on the shopping list? Having good, comfortable gear that fits you properly for all riding conditions will allow you to fix your attention on the ride and not on your physical discomforts. This will also help ensure that you will have a great trip. And knowing that you and your co-rider have the protection needed need will give you peace of mind every time you saddle up.
Please have a safe, fun new year.
